PHYSIOL BEHAV 3q3) 49W95, 1983.-We have previously reponed that intravenous injection of morphine produces selective abolition of recently learned, aversively motivated classically conditioned responses. We now report that morphine administered to overtrained animals produces considerably less effect on conditioned responding than in animals recently trained. This effect cannot he accounted for by factors related to consolidation. Results are discussed in relation to a two process model of aversive learning.

Selective, naloxone-reversible morphine depression of learned behavioral and hippocampal responses.
Morphine administered intravenously causes immediate and complete abolition of a simple learned response (classically conditioned nictitating membrane extension in rabbit) and of the associated learning-induced increase in hippocampal neuron activity. Both effects are completely reversed by low doses of naloxone. Morphine has no effect at all on behavioral performance of the unconditioned refle...
متن کاملOpiates and classical conditioning: selective abolition of conditioned responses by activation of opiate receptors within the central nervous system.
It has previously been shown that opiates produce selective abolition of aversively motivated classically conditioned responses in the rabbit. The experiments reported here show that these effects are mediated by specific activation of opiate receptors within the central nervous system in that this central activation is both necessary and sufficient to produce opiate-induced abolition of condit...
متن کاملThe Fruit Essential oil of Cuminum cyminum L. Reduced the Acquisition but not Expression of Ineffective dose of Morphine-Induced Conditioned Place Preference in Morphine- Sensitized Mice
Background: Cuminum cyminum fruit essential oil (FEO) dose-dependently can attenuate the expression of morphine tolerance and dependence in morphine-dependent mice. Objective: In this study, the effects of Cuminum cyminum FEO on acquisition and expression of morphine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) in morphine-sensitized mice were studied. Methods: Repeated subcutaneous (s.c.) adm...
متن کاملReduction of the Morphine Maintenance by Blockade of the NMDA Receptors during Extinction Period in Conditioned Place Preference Paradigm of Rats
Introduction: Activation of N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) glutamate receptors in the nucleus accumbens is a component of drug-induced reward mechanism. In addition, NMDA receptors play a major role in brain reward system and activation of these receptors can change firing pattern of dopamine neurons. Blockade of glutamatergic neurotransmission reduces the expression of conditi...
متن کاملEffect of nitric oxide on the attenuation of acquisition of morphine-induced conditioned place preference by the essential oil from Cuminum cyminum L. fruit in mice
Introduction: Nitric oxide (NO) is a neuronal messenger molecule in the central nervous system, which is generated from L-arginine by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and involves in many important opioid-induced effects. Our previous studies revealed that Cuminum cyminum interestingly reduces morphine sensitization, tolerance and dependency in male mice. Therefore, in the present study, the effe...
